Whether you’re getting ready for surgery, recovering from one, or simply looking to support your personal wellness journey, the wellness center at Grand Arbor in Alexandria, Minnesota is here to walk alongside you. We support Vivie residents, community members aged 45 and up, and Alexandria Area YMCA members 45+, all with one shared goal: helping you live and age well.
One of the most meaningful ways to show the value of post-surgery rehabilitation is through the voices of those who’ve been there. Kim Suter is one of those voices. She’s a member who’s undergone two knee replacement surgeries and found strength—and success—through our support.
“Whether it’s for your hip, knee, ankle, or just overall fitness, this is the place to get better.”
Recovery support before and after surgery
After Kim’s first knee replacement, her recovery wasn’t easy. She spent months struggling with pain and limited mobility. That’s when she connected with her doctor and decided to try the Total Knee & Hip class at the wellness center.
The warm water pool and consistent, guided movement helped ease her pain and rebuild her strength. So when it was time for her second knee replacement, she took a new approach—this time, starting her rehab before the surgery even happened.
“The difference between my first and second knee replacement was huge,” she shared. “I went to the classes before it, and my recovery was great.”
Finding connection through community
Recovery isn’t just about physical healing—it’s about being seen, heard, and supported. With more than 30 group fitness classes each week, the wellness center at Grand Arbor fosters a genuine sense of belonging. Kim felt it right away.
“You may not know anyone at first,” she said, “but you will when you walk out of that place. It’s a warm and pleasant atmosphere.”
Our certified personal trainers lead both group and private classes with a focus on listening first. Whether you’re working toward more mobility, strength, or simply want to feel better day-to-day, you’ll find programs that meet you where you are.
Quality care, every step of the way
We take pride in offering modern, well-maintained equipment and thoughtful programming. From HydroRider® water bikes to a warm water pool and a full cardiovascular strength room, the wellness center at Grand Arbor is designed to support your recovery and wellness goals.
“They’ve got great equipment at the fitness center which they’re always updating and maintaining,” Kim noted. That commitment to quality helps make every part of your journey more comfortable and effective.
