As the days grow longer and warmer weather begins to settle in, many people start planning their summer schedules—time outdoors, time with friends, and events that bring the community together.
At Vivie, summer also means beloved community traditions: the Vivie 5k/10k Walk and Run in Minneapolis, the Vivie Golf Classic in Alexandria, and our community picnics in Alexandria and Park Rapids.
“These events are a great reminder that when a community comes together, even simple moments—like a walk, a run, a round of golf, or sharing a meal—can create connection and real impact,” said Emily Geris, executive director of Vivie’s foundation.
Whether you’re looking for a summer charity run, a golf tournament that supports a great cause, or a family-friendly community gathering, Vivie offers opportunities to join in, volunteer, or sponsor.

Emily went on to share that “the funds raised through the Walk and Run help support programs that bring joy, creativity, and connection to the people we serve. These opportunities—from music and art to wellness and education—make a real difference in everyday life.”
Vivie Golf Classic – Alexandria, Minnesota
Later this summer, golfers and community partners will gather for the 20th Annual Vivie Golf Classic on July 8, 2026, at Geneva Golf Club in Alexandria, Minnesota.
For two decades, this event has brought together golfers, sponsors, and supporters for a day on the course that supports meaningful programs across Vivie communities.

Funds raised from the Golf Classic support resident activities and hospice services, including therapeutic music, massage therapy, and bereavement programming.
“For twenty years, the Golf Classic has brought together generous sponsors, golfers, and community members who care deeply about supporting meaningful experiences for the people we serve,” Emily added. “It’s a day that celebrates community while helping fund programs that truly enrich lives.”
Community Picnics – Alexandria and Park Rapids
As the season moves into August, we’re bringing communities together in a different way—with two annual picnics that celebrate and show appreciation for the people and neighborhoods we’re proud to serve.
The Alexandria Community Picnic will take place Monday, August 17 at Grand Arbor by Vivie (a new location for 2026). The Park Rapids Community Picnic follows on Thursday, August 20 at Crystal Brook by Vivie.

Both events are free and open to the public, with lunch, entertainment, and activities for the whole family to enjoy. It’s a simple way to spend time together, connect with others, and celebrate community.
Be sure to watch for more details about our community picnics in the coming weeks.
Community Events That Support Older Adults
While these events take place in different parts of Minnesota, they share a common purpose: bringing people together to support programs—and moments—that help older adults live active, connected, and fulfilling lives.
You can get involved in many ways, including:
- Running or walking in the Vivie 5k/10k Walk and Run.
- Registering a team for the Vivie Golf Classic.
- Joining us at a community picnic with family and friends.
- Sponsoring events, volunteering, or cheering on participants.
As you start planning your summer calendar, consider joining one of these community events.
Because sometimes the best summer memories come from doing something fun and making a difference.
