Summer brought many opportunities for Vivie’s foundation to gather with the people and communities who support our mission.
Some came ready to run or walk. Others met us on the golf course or joined us for lunch at a community picnic. Families gathered for a different reason at our hospice memorial services, coming together to honor people they love.
Each gathering had its own purpose, but all gave us reasons to be grateful—for longtime supporters, new faces, generous partners, and the communities that continue to welcome and support Vivie.
Showing up in support
In June, runners and walkers gathered at the Lake Harriet Bandshell in Minneapolis for the 21st Annual Vivie 5k/10k Walk and Run. Participants of all paces took to the course in support of programs that help older adults stay active and engaged, including creative arts and music, wellness opportunities, social activities, and lifelong learning.
A month later, the Vivie Golf Classic marked its 20th year at Geneva Golf Club in Alexandria. Golfers, sponsors, and community partners spent the day on the course while supporting resident activities and hospice services such as therapeutic music, massage therapy, and bereavement programming.
“We’re grateful for the people who continue to show up for these events year after year, as well as those who join us for the first time,” said Emily Geris, executive director of Vivie’s foundation. “Their generosity helps us provide programs and services that add so much to the lives of the people Vivie serves.”
Sharing summer with our neighbors
The foundation’s summer gatherings also offered an opportunity simply to spend time with the communities Vivie calls home.
Community picnics in Alexandria and Park Rapids welcomed residents, families, friends, neighbors, and community partners for free lunches and live entertainment. This year, the Alexandria picnic moved to Grand Arbor by Vivie, while Crystal Brook by Vivie once again hosted the Park Rapids gathering.
The picnics are our opportunity to say thank you—to open our doors, visit with our neighbors, and celebrate the communities whose support and friendship mean so much to Vivie.
Gathering in remembrance
This summer, the foundation also supported a series of memorial services honoring Vivie hospice patients who died during the previous year.
Families gathered for music, prayer, and opportunities to speak about their loved ones and display photos. At the close of the services, white doves or butterflies were released in their honor.
“Our memorial services create space for families to remember someone they love and to be with others who understand that experience,” Geris said. “We’re honored to welcome families back and continue supporting them after hospice care has ended.”
Thank you for being part of it
A summer filled with events like these depends on many people: participants and sponsors, volunteers and team members, families and neighbors who choose to spend their time with us.
To everyone who joined us this summer, thank you. Your presence, generosity, and support help Vivie’s foundation continue its work throughout the year—and give us plenty to look forward to when these summer traditions return.
