A Cup of Community

Tucked inside Highview Hills by Vivie, The Teapot is more than a place to pick up milk, toothpaste, or a sweet treat. It’s a resident-run shop—and a powerful example of what happens when people come together to build something meaningful.

The Teapot is open twice a week, offering everything from ice cream to hand sanitizer to anyone who stops by—residents, families, team members, and visitors alike. But the real magic happens behind the scenes, where a team of dedicated residents keeps everything running. From purchasing inventory and selling merchandise to making bank deposits and organizing community drawings, this group works together with care and purpose.

Powered by residents, supporting independence.

For the residents who manage it, The Teapot is a source of joy and belonging.

“It was something spiritual for me to open The Teapot,” shared Rene. “It brings happiness to the people who live here.”

And for shoppers, it’s a way to stay independent. Stocking up on groceries or grabbing essentials without needing a ride to the store empowers residents to care for themselves—and get to know their neighbors while they’re at it.

More than a store—a place to belong.

But The Teapot isn’t just a store. Every visit is an opportunity to build community. There’s a table just outside the entrance where neighbors can help themselves toTeapot 5 coffee and cookies—encouraging them to linger and chat. And once a month, the space transforms during “Teapot Treats and Wine,” a community event featuring happy hour drinks, a drawing for prizes, and live accordion music played by a resident.

Jim, a resident who helps manage the shop put it simply:

“It’s a fun way to learn about the other residents who live here. It’s also important to me to give back to our own community”.

Rooted in independence, built on connection, and warmed by the people who make it happen—The Teapot is a beautiful reminder that community isn’t something we receive. It’s something we create, together.
