At Vivie, we believe care should meet you where you are—especially when it comes to something as personal and impactful as speech therapy. Whether you’re navigating recovery after a stroke, facing a progressive disease like Parkinson’s, or simply noticing changes in how you speak or swallow, our in-home speech therapy services are here to support you every step of the way.
We’re honored that this commitment to compassionate, expert care was recently recognized as Minnesota’s Best Gold Winner for Speech Therapy. It’s a meaningful reflection of what matters most to us: empowering people to live well, in every season of life.
To give you a closer look at what in-home speech therapy means at Vivie, we talked to Ashlee Long, one of our compassionate speech-language pathologists (SLPs).
In-home speech therapy is more than just helping someone find the right words—it’s about supporting communication, cognition, and swallowing in ways that help people stay independent and connected.
As Ashlee explains, “Each therapy session differs based on the patient’s goals and the area we’re addressing.”
Whether that’s improving verbal expression, building memory skills, or creating strategies for safe eating, every visit is tailored to the person.
There’s something powerful about receiving care in a familiar place. Through Vivie’s home health care services, you’ll work with someone who sees the full picture of your daily life.
In Ashlee’s words, “We get to meet you where you’re most comfortable, see how you live and interact with your loved ones, and observe firsthand which areas of your life are most affected by your condition.”
It’s about delivering expert care with deep compassion—without asking you to leave the comfort of home.
Communication, cognitive, and swallowing challenges can have many causes. Some people seek support after a stroke or brain injury. Others may be managing the effects of Parkinson’s, ALS, or dementia. For some, head or neck cancer treatments lead to new challenges with voice or swallowing.
According to Ashlee, ideal candidates for speech therapy are individuals who experience difficulty with thinking, memory, verbal expression, slurred speech, swallowing, or vocal quality.
Speech therapy provides tools and encouragement to help people stay connected, safe, and understood. At Vivie, we create personalized treatment plans that support real-life goals—like communicating clearly with caregivers or returning to a favorite meal.
Ashlee shares, “Speech therapy can help patients get back to eating and effectively communicating so they can express their needs to caregivers.”
And sometimes, it’s the smallest moments that mean the most. “It’s truly rewarding helping someone tell their family they love them or enjoy their favorite dessert without the fear of choking.”
Being named Minnesota’s Best Gold Winner for Speech Therapy is an honor that reflects the dedication of team members like Ashlee—and the trust people place in us. If you’re ready to explore in-home speech therapy for yourself or someone you love, our Vivie team is here to walk with you.
